Computer Day

Today was a little too chilly for wet clay so I spent time down loading (or maybe it was up loading) pictures of my sculptures to a facebook ad type thing.  I believe you get to it by searching fire brushed pottery.  I already have 12 followers...funny, since I make saints!

This is a picture of a bunch (or maybe a flock... or a gaggle.... possibly a quaffle) of finished saints and gods and goddesses.  I just love dirt!

Necklace Chimes

Today was an off day for creativity...so I used up scraps and made some chimes that I'll put on satin cords...maybe add a few beads...
I have an idea brewing for something with moving parts and I have the need to make another "big thing"...I need to order clay though.

This is a picture of the peace saint with the word peace carved on him...I rather like him....oh, I added a bead to hang a really cool peace sign charm from his hands.  The picture is a bit blurry...I forgot my camera and used my cell phone to take the picture and you never know...or at least I never know.

Goddess of Caffeine

This was today's first project...well, actually the first project was carving the word "peace" on the patron saint of peace...I forgot to take a picture though...Then I made the caffeine goddess...she has sort of scary hair and eyes (but don't we all before the first cup of coffee?) ... then I painted some more colors and flowers and such on the fireplace.....oh, and I put burlap on the doors at the end of the shed...another picture I forgot to take...It was a perfect day!

New Bowl

Another scrap bowl...who knows if this will survive the raku process but I'm going to give it a try...it's just dirt...and several hours of my life...

The Patron Saint of Peace and Peacemakers

This is Saint Nicholas...not the santa one but the peaceful one. He has a peace dove on him and some olive branches and once he is leather hard he'll have some peaceful words carved on him....maybe a peace sign or three...

Wednesday's Bowl...or, It's Just Dirt

Well, it would have been an amazing bowl but Christmas got in the way and I forgot to go back to the shed and remove it from the hump mold...bummer...I did have some brilliant ideas while working on it so all is not lost...I might raku the pieces anyway.

But Wait...There's More

These are the "just in case" wings....they're ok but I'm hoping the leaf wings turn out!

Our Lady of the Snow

Since today is so cold and grey and somewhat snowy looking I decided to make Our Lady of the Snow. Once she is finished I'll attach little metal snowflakes on all the beads.

Questionable wings

SO, this is another may or may not make it project....the angel will be fine, it's the wings that are the issue. This is the angel I made the back up wings for yesterday...just in case. When the back ups are leather hard I'll post a picture of the angel sporting those wings...they're very different.

Anyway, this is a special order birthday gift...the story behind it is pretty cool. The grandmother of the recipient died around Thanksgiving a couple of years ago (ok, so that part's more sad than cool) but every Thanksgiving since then a red bird has tried to get into the kitchen window....so, this is a fall angel with a red bird in the leaf incense dish....I hope it makes it through the fire!

Monday's bowl

Today, I made a bowl from scraps of raku clay... I'm not sure how it will turn out or even if it will survive the rest of it's journey to completion. There was some stress around some of the joined coils when I removed it from the form but...I added slip and little smashed balls of clay...sort of like bandaids...so, we'll see. I also made a back up wing for another experiment...oh, and a funny little christmas ball....for next year.

I've been thinking that if I blogged my progress in the shed I might be more motivated...or maybe have somewhat of a sense of obligation to make something every day.. or so.

I had decided to paint a little on the fireplace each day I was in the shed but I just didn't feel very painty today...I felt hungry...so I came home and ate a chinese dumpling...it was delicious..and am now trying my hand at blogging...this is somewhat of a miracle...it was just recently that I realized that pixels had nothing to do with fairies.

That's it....tomorrow I'll try and post a picture of The Bowl...or maybe tonight.
