Dancing Tree Tile

This is the third tile in the set that I've been working on...they're taking longer than I had thought...but they're not warping and they line up fairly well...I'm pleased.

Night Angel

A starry winged angel...with a moon in her hands!  I'm not sure if the wings will survive so I've made a few back ups....can't wait for raku day!

Bird Angel

I've started getting ready for a Christmas festival at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in December so I thought I'd start an angel series...this is the bird angel.  There are little birds and nests with eggs in them scattered about in her hair...I think I'll do a flower angel and a sea angel and a star angel...maybe some season angels...

Drying Nicely

So far these two tiles are drying without much warping and they seem to be shrinking consistently enough that they still fit together nicely.
I finished the next tile up yesterday but I didn't have a camera handy.  I'll post a picture of it soon...it will make it easier to figure out what you're looking at...I hope!

Next Tile Up

So.... this is the somewhat boring "next tile up". It's a bit hard to tell what parts are raised and what parts are carved...but, it's the trunk of the dancing tree and the torso and head of the larger Undine.
I redrew the rest of the tiles today and rolled out more slabs but, I have to put things on hold for a few days and go to work.  Hopefully, everything will be all moist and flat and happy in their plastic wraps and weights until Friday.... then, I'll carve the rest of the series.
I'm also thinking that I'll to do the same design.... only instead of carving clay away I'll add clay... really, this is all just another big experiment.
I have this picture in my head and now I'm deciding how best to make it out of clay and then raku fire it and have it not warp...or break....or be too many random colors.... and not too heavy to hang on a wall....  I truely love this!

...and then I was thinking....
...this design would be really cool as a quilted wall hanging.

 Oh, the possibilities are endless!

Undines, Sylphs and Swirly Beings

This is the beginning tile in a 6 part series.  These are two Undines dancing in the water (the head and torso of the larger one will be on the next tile up).  If all goes well, there's a dancing tree, a swirly sylph and some firey sun goddesses.  The tiles are about 6" x 12" and, as is my way, I jumped in without really thinking the whole project out.  I've already redesigned several times and may end up having to scrap this tile and redo it with more waves..... so that it blends in better with the next tile...or not.
